Final Result

The image shown below is my final outcome of my design. Keeping with the influence I had already found, I decided to use people instead of made-up characters, the reason being that I wanted to keep it relevant to what the brief had asked us to do. I also wanted to make a message within my illustration that is clear for people to understand.  As you can see everything I have created is shaped like a paintbrush, the reason I did this was to send a message which is, no matter your religion, look, etc. You can be an artist. Everyone can come together through art and don't be afraid to show that. My colour palette choice is very bright and bold, so I can make my illustration look more appealing to the eye. I also had small icons mixed in with the people, to keep the illustration trendy. I also chose to use white when creating this icons, because it works better on the foreground, I chose to not put faces on the people I had created, I wanted to keep my design simple and clear, a...

The idea

Image
My perspective on the brief was to think about how artist's from different cultures, looks and tastes can come together as one. Daniel Sulzberg is someone who creates whatever is on his mind, he has his own characters and has a way of making his illustrations come to life, I've picked out some of the illustrations he created that inspired me. My inspiration was what led me to create this specific design, I've decided to create multiple random pieces and characters shaped like an artist's paintbrush. What initially inspired me was the love heart shaped with characters and other random small illustrations within that.

Research

After reading into the brief I immediately went to youtube to find any inspiration I could gather, unfortunately the videos I had found were no associated in any way as to what I was creating.  I then decided to look at some of the designs that were on the page, that then took me to find some artists that had also influenced them. Researching further I found an artist who uses a lot of colour in his creative works. Daniel Sulzberg, his illustrations are constructed of characters that are all full of joy, and he brings these images to life. I found it was appropriate to use this influence as one piece he created really peaked my interest. The image shown below was one that really interested me, the brief is all about bringing artists together, looking through his works I noticed he does a lot of his works with characters in a creative way. This one interested me the most because of the randomness happening throughout the image, it also appears to be shaped into a love h...

The brief

We were asked to make an illustration that uses narrative to celebrate our universal humanity and our collective experience; one that celebrates illustration and storytelling as a dynamic influencers for unity. Below is a small insight as to what the Tales of Unity is and why we are creating it. ' All together now – Tales of Unity Despite possessing the technology that makes universal communicators of us all, we still suffer the great disconnects of our modern world; the great geographical, political, economic and spiritual divides. Yet, whenever we meet across these gulfs, we find we have so much in common. Alongside all that separates us, there are the great connectors – music, comedy, cuisine, the natural world and, of course, the need to draw; to examine and explain our lives through pictures.
